Leith Cross Country Relays ‘Ponydales’ 2025

The Leith Cross Country Relays & Ponydale Challenge are on Saturday 17 May.

Venue: Dunedin Pony Club, 50 Three Mile Hill Road, Halfway Bush, Dunedin

As this is a relay event, you enter with us, and we submit club teams to Leith.

Entry is $10 for most grades- children under 14 are free. Hill City-University members, please pay following the instructions on our online entry form below.

Event options:

  • 1 x 800m (Girls & Boys mixed)
  • 4 x 800m (Girls & Boys U14 mixed)
  • 4 x 2 km (Open Women, MW35+, MW50+, MW60+, MM50+, MM60+, U18 Mixed, All grades Mixed)
  • 4 x 4 km (Open Women, Open Men, MM35+)
  • Ponydale Challenge- as many laps as possible within 3 hours.

Programme:

Race 1- 12:30 pm 4 x 2000m

Race 2- 1:35 pm 1 lap of 930m (individual race)

Race 3- 1:45 pm 4 x 930m (U14 mixed)

Race 4- 2:10 pm 4 x 4000m

  • Please don’t crunch the numbers up
  • Return all Race numbers after the race
  • No afternoon tea or water. BYO
  • The Hotshot Coffee Cart will be on site
  • Dogs are not allowed in the grounds

Health and Safety:

  • If it is a very cold and wet day make sure everyone keeps warm, keep an eye on children as they can lose their body heat very quickly.
  • The course is very slippery and is not smooth ground – take care when running around the course and watch out for natural hazards like the creek, ruts, holes, rocks, sharp sticks and gorse. The downhill areas may become particularly slippery.
  • Follow the instructions of the course marshals
  • If someone does have an accident / medical incident whilst running please give assistance in the first instance and get someone to alert course marshals and other spectators to get help
  • Keep away from horses located in paddocks close to the course
  • Parents/ caregivers are responsible for the welfare and safety of the children in their care.
  • Take care when exiting or entering the parking area in your car.
