Hill City University update 19/7/17

HI everyone,

Another fantastic weekend of racing has been and gone, well done to everyone who participated, some really fantastic results! There are many great photos on our club Facebook page, so if you have not seen them yet, check it out. Looks like some muddy good fun was had.

This weekend, we are heading to the Caversham club, contrary to what is says in the programme online. They are situated on Middleton Road in Corstophine, and are looking forward to hosting us and showing us the gruelling hlls that makes them so tough. They have a large walkers group as well as a kids club, so everone should have a great time. Please meet at their clubrooms ready to start by 1.30pm, a little earlier than us. Bring a plate to share for afternoon tea also. If anyone neds a ride, sing out.

On the 29th July, we have our annual club event, the T K Cowan (my Grandad) handicap race. THere will also be a kids run. It is a great event, held out at the Tomahawk community hall. I encourage you all to give this race a whirl, its a nice wee challenge, with a bit of every kind of terrain. We should have times for you all by now, so you dont need to do anything to register for this event. We will need marshals to make this event possible please, so rope in a family member if you are running.

Peninsula Relay- 5th August: Is a relay event organised by Athletics Otago, see there website for more details. Please let me know if you would like to enter this and we will make a team for you. We also need to provide marshals for this event, from 1215 til approx 3pm, so please let me know if you can help out:)

Thanks again

Hill City University Update 4th July 2017

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all keeping warm on this very wintery blast!

With all the success of the weekends Edmond Cup where Hill City University members were absolutely outstanding and cleaned up in pretty much every category, we are all on a bit of a club-proud high! What fantastic results.

This weekend, 8th July, we return to the clubrooms for a social run/walk in between what is now becoming a very busy race calendar. Please bring a plate for afternoon tea. There will be a kids run also.

The following weekend, 15th July, we have some more racing fun at the Otago Cross Country Champs at Wakouaiti. Same entry process applies through the Athletics Otago website. Let me know if you need any help with this. Entries close at midday on Thursday 13th July.

With fantastic new sponsorship from major and minor sponsors, its going to be an event to be proud of as our biggest fundraising event of the year. The Shoe Clinic are our major sponsors, and they are proudly supported by Asics, our competitors will be very excited about this! The webpage has had a snazzy new makeover and it now has an independent Facebook page. I need your help to share the page, and get the word out there for all to see. Hill City University update 21/6/17

Hello everyone,

As its National Volunteers week, I would like to make a special acknowledgement of Lisa Neilson. Lisa makes the finest pots of tea since way back, and is always at the club on a Saturday to help us all out by getting afternoon tea sorted. Thank you Lisa, we really appreciate your endless help.

After a very exciting weekend with Bella Bloomfield and Romain Mirosa doing incredibly well in the Wellington Marathon, both picking up medals in their age groups for the New Zealand Marathon Champs. As well as this Drew Cairney, William Scharpf, Josh Hou and George Bates performed very well at the National Secondary Schools Cross Country Champs in Christchurch.

The second Athletics Otago Childrens Cross Country was hosted by Caversham club on Sunday also, lovely to see many of our smaller but speedy athletes enjoying them selves and picking up some more ribbons for their collection. Well done!

This weekend we are meeting up with the Ariki club at their clubrooms at Bayfield Park at 1.30pm, from there we will head up to Rotary Park for our annual cross country event with them. This is a very fun run, and its handicapped, my favourite! Our club rooms will not be open this day, so if you need a ride to the Ariki clubrooms, please sing out and this can be arranged. Kids can also participate in this run. If you are new to the club this year, and you know your 5km time, please forward it to me to send to the math-magician.

On the 1st July, the Edmond Cup Race is on at Wingatui. Entry is on the Athletics Otago website. Entries close on the 29th June. We are the duty club for this event so we need helpers please with setting up the course, taking it down after and race officiating. Please can you help if you havent already helped with an event.

Thank you

Merrilee:)

Hill City University Update 15/6/17

Hi everyone,

We had some cracking results at the Barnes Cross Country last weekend, from all age groups. Of note, Stafford Thompson ran super fast to take out the fastest time in the mens race, closely followed by Kirk Madgewick, well done guys!! The kids were amazing as usual also, in the U13 girls race Lila and Anya Rhodes placed first and second, while in the U13 boys race Archie Rhodes, Ollie Oberlin Brown and Fergus Oberlin Brown placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Wow!

In the U18 races, Ella Hou came first in the womens race, while Josh Hou, Drew Cairney and William Scharpf placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Senior women also dominated in their event too with Shauna Pali 1st, Bella Bloomfield 2nd and Bridget Thompson 4th. Fantastic work everyone!!

This weekend we have a club run or walk from the clubrooms, meeting at 1.30pm to leave in our groups at 2pm. Sarah will be taking the kids out this weekend:)

All the very best of luck to Romain Mirosa who is competing in the New Zealand Marathon Champs in Wellington this weekend, go well Romain!

Coming up on the 24th June, we are meeting up with the Ariki club to have our annual cross country with them at Rotary Park. This is handicap style, and good fun, approx 5km, with a kids event also. We will need an idea of your 5km time please so Mike can do the maths to get your start times worked out, so start thinking about this.

Thanks everyone

HCU update 30th May 2017

Hi everyone,

Hope your week is going well. This Saturday, we have a club run from our clubrooms, meeting at 1.30pm to leave in packs at 2pm please. There will be a kids run too. Bring something to share for PM tea.

All the best to those who are travelling to Christchurch to run the Half or Full Marathon, keep us posted!

Last Saturday, the sun came out just in time for the bus to leave for the Millennium track, everyone that went had a great time. Thank you to Steve Pinker for putting in so much effort to make this so fun:) On Sunday, we hosted the first of the Athletics Otago Childrens Cross Country series, this was a great success, and the kids had a fantastic time. The next in this series is hosted by Caversham Harriers on the 18th June at Corshophine Park. Spread the word about this as it really is a fantastic series. The link to enter is http://athleticsotago.co.nz/Events/Events/race-2-otago-kids-cross-country

Barnes Cross Country: Will be held on the 11th June. This is an interclub, short course cross country, and open to anyone who is registered with the club, either competitive or social registration, also there is a kids race. To enter this event, you must first register with the club, and then enter via the Athletics Otago Site. Dont forget, your competitive race number is the same as last year, so hopefully you have kept this to wear on the day. If not, I will need to allocate you a new number, so please get in touch early to arrange this. Here is the link for the Barnes Cross Country.  http://athleticsotago.co.nz/Events/Events/barnes-cross-country-8 Entries close at midnight on Tuesday so dont miss out!

Athletics Otago Finance Committee: We need to have a representative from our club on the finance committee for Athletics Otago, this is a great opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes in Athletics in Otago, and be involved in some decision making for our running community. It involves a meeting once per month, usually only an hour long, and you do not have to be a finance guru, just someone who is interested in being part of the behind the scenes team for the year. Please let me know if you are happy to be nominated.

Thats all I think! Feedback welcomed on the content/regularity/etc of these emails,

Merrilee:)

Hi all,

Hope you have had a good week? This weekend we have a Club run and walk from our clubrooms, meeting from 1.30 to leave at 2pm. There will be a kids pack too, so our little adventurers get their next installment of Saturday fun. Please bring something to share for afternoon tea.

The Lovelock relays: are to be held on the 6th May, please let us know if you are keen to be in a team, whether it be age graded or in one of our popular social teams. The kids race is always good fun too. Please see Helen, Howden or Oli at the clubrooms on Saturday to get you club singlet and arrange payment.

HELP: We will also need help to run the Lovelocks on the 6th, so if you are able to help with setting up the course, and taking it down after, as well as some odd jobs in between, please put your hand up. We have a whole host of events we need to provide marshals for over the season, so please if you can committ to one or two, it means everyone shares the load and we can continue to have a great selection of events in Otago. THe Mothers day run is another event on the 14th May that we need 2 helpers for, so if you are a Dad, and Mum is running, please lend a hand. Send me an email so i can pass on your details.

Registrations are due by the tart of June too please, so put this at the top of your list. Let us know if you need help with this.

Thanks everyone, enjoy the rest of your week

Merrilee (Currently melting in Samoa 35 degrees)
