Club Report: 25 August 2011

Report by: Jane Pali, Club Manager

This Saturday the Clubrooms will be closed as the Peninsula Relay is being held and many of you are competing.

The relay starts at John Wilson Memorial Drive at 11.30am. For anyone not competing you may wish to support.

One of our teams – maybe even be a driver or Marshall – we need 7 volunteers at least please.

Last weekend we had club members competing in the NZ Road Champs in Wellington.

  • Congratulations Rozie for winning the SW 10km Walk title in 50:01.50.
  • Alex Gorrie won Bronze in the M19 8km race in 25:52.10.
  • Christina Taylor was 4th in the W19 5km in 18:36.06 and
  • Joe Beamish 11th in the M16 6km race in 20:59.28.

Also over in Canberra Shauna Pali and Laura Carruthers represented NZSS in the Australian XC Champs. Shauna was 6th in the U20 6km in 22m31s and Laura ran the U18 4km in 15m29s.

Well done to you all.

Please also read Merrilee’s email below and offer your support.

Thanks all
Jane:)

The Hill Free Half marathon is quickly approaching on the 9th of October so its time to round up some helpers please!

To make the days events a safe and enjoyable as possible, i will need at least 40 volunteers on the day to help with water stations, marshalling, registrations, setting out the course and packing up at the end among other things. So please make yourself and/or family members available. I need people at the Outram Hall from 7.45am, we expect to be finished by 1.30ish.

The prize giving is separate this year due to limited space in the hall, and will be held at Nellies bar in Mosgiel at 3.30pm, so come along and enjoy the warmth and a cold one too.

If you are planning to enter, you will need to find someone that can help in your place, or volunteer to help on the Saturday with late entries and registrations at the clubrooms between 3.30 and 5.00pm.

Please email Merrilee Williams hillfree@hillcity.org.nz, or phone 488 4587 to volunteer, I will allocate jobs in the next couple of weeks and email them out. I would also like to have a meeting for marshalls on Saturday 8th October to make sure everyone knows where they are, and what they are to do.

Thank you very much

Merrilee
